This lovely piece was used at the Commodore Hotel, located at 109 East 42nd Street, New York City. The thirty story hotel was designed for New York Central System railroad and connected directly to Grand Central Terminal. It opened in 1919 and was named for "Commodore" Cornelius Vanderbilt. It was renovated in circa 1980 and is now the Grand Hyatt Hotel.

Buffalo China manufactured this bowl circa 1915-1940s. It measures 9 inches in diameter and features a multi-colored floral band in shades of red, blue, yellow, green and tan broken by an old sailing ship. The backstamp is marked Made Expressly for The Commodore, New York. The soup plate or bowl is excellent condition, no chips, cracks or hairlines. Moderate utensil use in the well.
