ST. JAMES Hotel Celery Tray ~ Early Jackson China

$17.00

The first St. James Hotel was destroyed in the Great Fire of 1889 which destroyed 25 city blocks but was rebuilt circa 1911. The second hotel was built of brick per new building ordinances instituted after the fire. It was 4 stories and located at 209 Washington St.

Jackson China manufactured this piece, which features a green and red topmark of vines, leaves and torches with St. J in the middle. Matching stripes of red and green surround the tray. It measures 12 by 5 1/4 inches and is 1 3/4 inches deep. No chips, cracks or hairlines but there are flecks of pottery in the well from the manufacturing process.

J. Bornstein & Sons was the distributor. This was a famous Seattle department store of the time and in 1909 they expanded to offering crockery and glassware as a commercial sideline out of a warehouse at 562 1st Avenue South.

Nice early piece of Seattle history. Don't hesitate to purchase this solid heavy tray.
