This fun plate was made for Wilson's Hillbilly Restrunt which was located in Townsend, TN at the entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains on Route 73 between Gatlinburg and Maryville. A motel was also attached to the restaurant and John and Norma Wilson were the owners. Family style meals were served with fried chicken and country ham as specialties. Both restaurant and motel were gone by the early 1970s.
Jackson China manufactured this in 1961. The 9 3/4 inch plate features a hillbilly holding a jug and napping against a tree stump. Excellent condition with moderate utensil use.
