BERKELEY-CARTERET Hotel ~ Asbury Park, NJ ~ Scammell

This platter was made for the Berkeley-Carteret Hotel in Asbury Park, NJ. The hotel opened in 1925 at Ocean and Sunset Avenues. During World War II, the hotel was used by the military. After a major renovation in 2007, the hotel is once again open as the Berkeley Ocean Front Hotel.

The oval platter features a handsome rim treatment in shades of brown, blue and gray. A shield bracketed by griffons and topped with a helmet is repeated with a wreath and swag pattern in between. A blue stripe surrounds the rim.

Marked on the back is Scammell's "Lamberton China" Designed and Made Expressly for The Berkeley-Carteret Hotel, Furnished by Steinbach Co., Asbury Park, N.J. Design Patented.

The platter measures 11 1/4 by 8 inches. No chips, cracks or hairlines. Moderate utensil use in the well.
