SAMUEL MERRITT HOSPITAL Bowl & Cup ~ Oakland, CA

$10.00

For your consideration is a cute breakfast set. Both the coffee cup and oatmeal bowl feature the SMH monogram in gray with a blue leaf border on the outside. Homer Laughlin produced this restaurant ware in 1975 for the bowl and 1978 for the cup. I've been informed this pattern was used at Samuel Merritt Hospital.

Samuel Merritt College was founded in 1909 through the legacy of Dr. Samuel Merritt. Drawn by the excitement of California in the 1850s, Dr. Merritt left his Maine home to seek his fortune in the west. He settled in Oakland, and as a dedicated physician, architect, ship builder, and civic planner his influence was etched on the history of the city. Dr. Merritt left plans for a hospital to be built in his name after his death. His dream was realized in 1909 when Samuel Merritt College and Samuel Merritt Hospital opened their doors.

The coffee cup stands 3 inches tall and the bowl measures 5 inches across and stands 2 inches tall. Both pieces are in pristine unused condition, showing no wear at all.

Thanks for looking and please see both pictures.  Two sets are available so order both today!
