SAMUEL MERRITT HOSPITAL Oval Bakers S/4- ~ Oakland, CA

$10.00

For your consideration is a set of 4 oval bakers. Each features the SMH monogram in gray with a blue floral border, called Chesterfield, on the outside. Mayer China produced this restaurant ware in 1961. I've been informed this pattern was used at Samuel Merritt Hospital.

Samuel Merritt College was founded in 1909 through the legacy of Dr. Samuel Merritt. Drawn by the excitement of California in the 1850s, Dr. Merritt left his Maine home to seek his fortune in the west. He settled in Oakland, and as a dedicated physician, architect, ship builder, and civic planner his influence was etched on the history of the city. Dr. Merritt left plans for a hospital to be built in his name after his death. His dream was realized in 1909 when Samuel Merritt College and Samuel Merritt Hospital opened their doors.

The bakers measure approx. 5 1/2 by 4 inches.  Excellent unused condition.  One baker has a small firing separation on the rim, which I've pictured.

Quantity shows as 1 but it is a set of 4.
