For your consideration is a plate from Yonkers Raceway in New York, home of the historic Empire City Trotting Club since 1899. Yonkers' Empire Terrace dining room accommodates 500 people who have a panoramic view of the track. Each table is equipped with its own television monitor for a close-up view of the action as track patrons enjoy the dining and racing in the Terrace's turn-of-the-century decor, complete with a series of racing murals commissioned specifically for the Raceway.
This 10 1/2 inch dinner plate was made by Homer Laughlin in 1976. The plate features a grey airbrushed border with the distinctive intertwining YR logo in a deeper shade of grey. Weighing in at almost 2 pounds, each plate has varying shades of airbrushed grey and some have no grey at all. A few have some rim chips under the glaze. Probably factory seconds. Please see the picture as they don't all match color-wise.
